Letter From the Board President
Hello neighbors!
I want to personally invite each of you to our 1st Quarter Board Meeting on Tuesday, March 7th at 7:00 pm at Timberview High School’s cafeteria. As many of you know the original developer had a master plan for the Collins Pond area that included many lifestyle amenities. None of this work was ever done, but your board has been working on a solution for that space. We have hired a landscape architect to create a plan that will be presented during the board meeting. The board would love to hear your thoughts on the project. There will also be an opportunity to present questions to the architect.
There is an opening for the Neighborhood Watch Coordinator if anyone is interested in serving in that role. If you have any questions please reach out to me. The new board members attended new board member training at PMG offices last month. This was a very beneficial training and we will be implementing some things that we learned. As many of you have noticed the large slide at the playground has been removed. There was damage done, and we have filed an insurance claim and are awaiting the final resolution any day now. We should expect to see some movement with the Southwind Meadows addition within the coming weeks. We have finalized the cost-sharing agreement with Lennar (the new developer) and they are now applying for the various permits to begin work. The previous board spent over a year finalizing this deal, and the new board thought it important and in the best interest of SWCA to stick with the original agreement and Lennar has agreed. I have also asked John Jurik to remain the project manager on this project as he is well versed on all of the issues. Thank you John for all that you’ve done for our community.
The City of Arlington has launched an incredible new app, Ask Arlington app that I am excited about. Through the Ask Arlington app, users can report common complaints such as overgrown weeds and grass, barking dogs or vehicles parked in a yard. The app allows users, who can remain anonymous, to upload photos and videos to provide City departments more information about the issue they are reporting. Users can also track the real-time progress of how their complaint is handled, including whether a notice of violation was issued. City officials say the Ask Arlington app is a convenient alternative to the Action Center hotline, 817-459-6777, which receives more than 350,000 calls a year. The app is available for free on Apple and Android devices.
There will be a citywide election on May 6, 2017. Of particular interest to Southwind is the District 3 City Council race. Robert Rivera has chosen not to run again. He has been a strong advocate for Southwind for many years. I encourage you each to research those running so that you can make an informed decision. The candidates are Marvin Sutton, Pablo R. Frias, Blerim Elmazi, and Roxanne Thalman. Also, on the ballot is the mayor’s race. Those candidates are Jeff Williams and Chris “Dobi” Dobson.
Sincerely,
Scherron Richard,
SWCA Board President
