Update on Pool Opening

18 July 2015 – I talked with Debra from Done Right pool service, our pool contractor for Southwind. They have received the pool filter covers that were on back order and required to be changed out per Texas law. The problem that exists now is with all this rain and standing water, they strongly recommend NOT draining the pool to install these covers as pressure from the water-logged ground outside of the pool could cause cracks and surface problems. Should this happen, the expense to repair would be significant and close the pool for a substantial amount of time. I asked about cost of a diver to install the covers; Done Right had suggested this option previously. it would be slightly less expensive than draining and refilling pool, but Debra is fairly certain we would have an acid level issue before the season closes. That would require a shutdown, drain, powerwash, and refill at that point. Normally powerwashes are done yearly, but it wasn’t done last year and makes the need to powerwash necessary this year. We could sign a waiver authorizing Done Right to empty the pool now but the Board does not support that approach due to the risks involved. Done Right says they’ll need 2-3 days with no rain before they can drain the pool. Looking at the 10 day forecast for Arlington, there is a significant chance of rain each day. I’ve also heard that 5” of rain possible this week. So it is difficult to predict when draining the pool can start. I did get assurances from Debra they would monitor the dry-out and weather daily and as soon as it was safe to proceed they would. The schedule would be: One day to drain/powerwash, and install filters; one day to refill and add chemicals; one or two days to get City inspector out here for the required inspection. The bottom line is – the pool will not open Memorial Day weekend, but there is a better chance the following weekend (but not a sure thing). Debra stated they’ve never missed a pool opening date in 20 years; these conditions are very unusual.
